Do you have any new products or formulations?
We re-formulated Heatdoc
™
our
first generation heating oil additive,
and introduced a new premium diesel
product, O.P.T.-AF (Optimum Performance
Technology Anti-foulant) and Blue Sky
DEF Diesel Exhaust Fluid.
In 2012, Heatdoc
™
, our first generation
home heating oil additive was enhanced
with a synergistic combination of three
stabilizers. This stabilizer system is opti-
mized to protect ultra-low sulfur heating
oil, biodiesel, and biodiesel/ultra-low sulfur
heating oil blends for both seasonal and
long-term storage.
With a focus on fleet performance, we
launchedOptimumPerformance Technology
– AF (O.P.T. – Anti-foulant), a diesel additive
formulated to meet the demands of High
Pressure Common Rail fuel injection systems,
as they interact with ultra-low sulfur diesel
fuel. O.P.T. is a combination next-generation
detergent, balanced with twin stabilizers
(for diesel and biodiesel blends), a corro-
sion inhibitor, and moisture dispersant – to
clean and protect sensitive fuel injectors and
the entire fuel handling system. O.P.T.-AF
restores fuel economy; improves and
maintains horsepower; cleans high-pressure
fuel injectors; and extends fuel filter life by
reducing soot and sludge formation.
Also in 2012, AFS added Blue Sky DEF
to the product line. This diesel exhaust fluid
is designed to meet the needs of all 2010
(and newer) diesel engine powered vehicles
using SCR technology. It reduces nitrogen
oxide emissions by 90% and improves fuel
efficiency by 5%. It is a simple-to-use, low-
cost, clean solution for meeting the 2010
EPA Clean Air requirements and improving
fuel economy.
What is your advice on how to treat heating oil?
After reviewing a home heating oil
dealer’s challenges and company resources,
we would suggest one of two treatment
programs: HeatDoc
™
or Greenburn
®
complimented with structured marketing,
testing and training programs which are
included in our additive price to support
the successful delivery of a better, cleaner
and safer Premium Fuel Program.
HeatDoc
™
today is a multifunctional
fuel additive designed to help prevent fuel
stability problems common when storing
all compositions of heating oil. This field-
proven technology also addresses sludge
formation and rapid fuel blackening, while
systematically dispersing tank and fuel line
sedimentation, which reduces filter, nozzle
and strainer plugging. HeatDoc
™
contains a
synergistic combination of three stabilizers.
This stabilizer system is optimized to protect
ultra-low sulfur heating oil, biodiesel, and
biodiesel/ultra-low sulfur heating oil blends
for both seasonal and long-term storage. In
addition to stabilizers, HeatDoc continues
to boast the best combination of dispersant,
metal deactivator and advanced corrosion
inhibitor on the market today.
Greenburn
®
Combustion Technology is
a super-premium heating oil solution with
a proprietary combustion technology that
reduces smoke and soot, while increasing
fuel efficiency and lowering emissions.
For a true competitive edge, Greenburn
®
distinguishes a dealer from those currently
treating with first-generation products in
the marketplace today. Greenburn is the
only full system treatment program on
the market minimizing the brushing and
vacuuming process.
It is important that a dealer’s brand is
linked, by the consumer, to innovation and
consumer-oriented benefits. It is innovation
that can competitively differentiate a brand
within an industry scrutinized for price,
replacement by natural gas (price and clean-
liness) and built-in consumer conservation.
By delivering a best-in-class premium fuel,
dealers can distinguish themselves from the
competition.
What is your advice on how to treat ULSD?
O.P.T.-AF and our cold weather pack-
ages are only recommended as required
based on climate and fuel issues that are
uncovered during our meetings with
feedback from prospects, customers and
laboratory analysis. Cold weather chemistry
can be customized to achieve a target pour
point affording maximum performance
throughout the year. Keeping fuel dry
throughout the calendar year is a hallmark
of the high levels of performance required
by our wholesale and retail customers.
What is your advice on treating Bioheat
®
blends?
Current conforming blends up to B5
can be treated as you would normally treat
standard #2 heating oil.
Like any product a dealer offers for
sale, knowing what they sell is paramount
to their success. Dealers should seek a
fuel that meets ASTM D396 specifications,
so they are assured of a quality product.
Dealers seeking to blend their own generic
heating oil and biodiesel should seek an
ASTM D6751 fuel from a BQ9000 certi-
fied producer and insist on a Certificate
of Analysis. Both biodiesel and #2 heating
oil are subject to oxidation issues, simply
because time and temperature can challenge
fuel quality.
How can a fuel dealer improve
profitability by selling treated fuel?
Dealers will improve the profitability
of their service departments by reducing
unnecessary and unprofitable emergency
service calls. Customer loyalty grows
out of trouble-free system operation and

Oil & Energy recently surveyed fuel treatment specialists and fuel wholesalers to discuss treatment
options for heating oil, Bioheat

and diesel. Below is the information they provided about new products
and their recommendations for improving the quality of the fuels that dealers sell. Thank you to the
companies that took the time to participate in the survey!
