of dealers have been quite successful
at charging a fair price for the bottle
and increasing their revenues as well.
We also upgraded UltraGuard to deal with
the problems associated with ultra-low
sulfur fuels.
What is your advice on how to treat heating oil?
Our recently upgraded UltraGuard is
strongly recommended based upon the
last four years of significantly reducing the
problems of increased corrosion, moisture
and microbe issues caused by ultra-low
sulfur fuels. In the markets that do not
yet have ultra-low heating oil, UltraGuard
is still proving to be a major factor in
reducing service department operating
expenses.
What is your advice on how to treat ULSD?
We recommend our 1032 Fuel Inhibitor
because the product has been proven
nationally to stop and prevent accelerated
corrosion in fuel dispensing equipment
as well as improve performance in diesel
equipment.
What is your advice on treating Bioheat
®
blends?
Biofuels have different characteristics
in regard to cold flow properties and based
upon percentages of bioheat blends a
treatment program should be considered.
In addition, stability can be improved to
help operability in the modern equipment
that is much less tolerant of even micro-
scopic particulate. Lastly, biofuels can have
a higher affinity for moisture so a demulsi-
fier is an effective remedy.
How can a fuel dealer improve
profitability by selling treated fuel?
One, by differentiating their product
and company to increase customer satis-
faction and increase customer retention.
Two, by reducing unnecessary fuel-related
service calls that reduce service profits. And
three, by selling and effectively promoting
a premium product and the associated
benefits.
Do you offer marketing
support for fuel retailers?
We offer an excellent marketing
program to help dealers communicate the
benefits of a better performing fuel to their
customer base. We can provide marketing
materials such as bill stuffers, tank labels,
truck labels, newsletter and radio material
as well as website support. In addition and
most importantly is the training we offer
to service techs, customer service reps and
others throughout the company to enable
effective communication of the real benefits
to a homeowner.

Do you have any new products or formulations?
Two new products were recently intro-
duced. One is a more concentrated Fuel Right
with 1:30,000 treat ratio but without the anti-
freeze component. Used for bulk-treating
large quantities of heating oil or diesel fuel
at the lowest possible price. Provides a full
dose of the filming amines that are building
the Fuel Right name worldwide. The other is
a 2 1/2 gallon jug of our most concentrated
winter formula, Fuel Right Winter 2.8K.
Each jug treats a transport load of fuel.
What is your advice on how to treat heating oil?
For heating oil we recommend treating
with any of our Fuel Right blends to stop
formation of sludge; dissolve away old
sludge; protect integrity of steel tanks and
filter housings; and generally keep heating
systems clean and free from deposits. All
of our products (except the Concentrated
Formula mentioned above) also contain an
aviation-grade fuel anti-freeze to prevent
fuel line freeze-ups in outdoor systems.
What is your advice on how to treat ULSD?
For ULSD we recommend bulk treating
with any of our Fuel Right or winter
blends to keep tanks, filters, injectors and
the whole system clean and trouble-free.
Treatment also adds lubricity for increased
injector pump life and provides acid-
neutralization stability for extended storage
in seldom-used fuel systems. Fuel Right
filming amines provide the best available
protection against acetic acid corrosion in
ULSD fuel systems.
What is your advice on treating Bioheat
®
blends?
Those using biodiesel blends (for heating
or diesel use) need to be aware that any free
water in the fuel system – combined with
the biological contamination that is almost
always present – leads to formation of a
black, sticky biodiesel product that fouls all
parts of the fuel system – and is extremely
difficult to remove. Additives (including
even Fuel Right) apparently do not protect
against this problem. It is imperative, there-
fore, that users take extreme measures to
remove all free water from the system.
How can a fuel dealer improve
profitability by selling treated fuel?
Some fuel dealers have differentiated
their product from the competition by
advertising that their fuel is treated. The
most successful programs, however, use
a treatment that actually gives tangible
benefits – things that the customer has
experienced or at least understands.
Sludge, fouling (especially of filters), and
tank corrosion are such things that can
really be prevented with the proper addi-
tives. Dealers in the Mid-Atlantic states
have learned that treating their product
with Fuel Right – and advertising this
treatment – develops brand loyalty.
Do you offer marketing
support for fuel retailers?
We offer advertising materials to
customers, buck slips to include in mailings,
and other ideas for generating customer
interest in Fuel Right treatment and treated
fuel. We have, on request, shared adver-
tising costs with co-op dollars.

Do you have any new products or formulations?
FQS introduced a new product this year
called FQS 1.5 Microbicide, which is a fuel
system biocide for diesel, gasoline, crude oils,
petrochemical feed stocks, liquid petroleum
gases, aviation fuels, kerosene, and renew-
able fuel blends. FQS 1.5 Microbicide is a fast
acting and broad-spectrum biocide that kills
fungus and bacteria (bugs) in the fuel system.
It is very cost effective to use at a treat ratio of
1 gallon to 10,000 gallons of fuel.
What is your advice on how to treat heating oil?
FQS3000 is a product recommended
for someone having issues with gelling.
FQS3000 will lower the pour point of fuel.
LTSA-35A is a diesel fuel stabilizer that will
help prevent fuel degradation issues while
fuel is stored for the winter season.
What is your advice on how to treat ULSD?
When used proactively, two to three
times a year, FQS 1.5 Microbicide (see
above) will keep a system free from
microbiological problems such as filter
plugging, coating probe equipment, and
