CALEFFI INTRODUCES
MAGNETIZED SEPARATOR
Caleffi North America recently intro-
duced Discal Dirtmag™, a combination air
and dirt separator with magnet. Circulating
fluid in hydronic systems contain impurities
that can cause poor system performance.
An especially difficult impurity to remove
is ferrous oxide. Fine ferrous oxide particles
can layer onto internal system surfaces
reducing operating efficiency.
The new Discal Dirtmag combines
high performance removal of microbubble
air, microparticle dirt
and ferrous particles.
The powerful rare-
earth magnet collar
mounted
externally
around the lower body
continually
attracts
and captures ferrous
particles as fluid passes
through the separator.
Flushing dirt and
ferrous particles is
easy: simply detach
the collar and open the bottom drain valve,
even while the system is operating. The
separator incorporates multiple functions
into one device, thus minimizing equipment
and labor costs. It is available in sizes 3/4” to
1-1/4” with threaded or sweat connections.
TACO SMARTDRIVE + TSL
MATCHES PUMPS WITH CONTROLS
Putting the right controls on your next
pump is as easy and effective as choosing
SmartDrive+TSL (integrated Taco System
Logic). Whether you’re working on a
Delta-P system or a Delta-T LoadMatch
®
system, a SmartDrive+TSL drive, sold as an
integrated package exclusively with Taco
pumps, is easy to add and set up, and there’s
no need for additional controllers.
Designed for secondary distribution
pumps and constant speed primary pumps,
Taco smart drives can set up the balancing
for chillers and boilers, and even modulate
secondary pumps and track system flow.
Taco System Logic controls the variable
speed drive to optimize pump performance.
Setpoints and controls are programmed at
the factory to allow the pumps to run at
much lower pressures than most industry
professionals would consider.
In addition, Taco Fault Tolerant Control
maintains control even when the feedback
signal wire is compromised. Pumping
at much lower speeds will consume
substantially less energy and require less
maintenance. Along with peace of mind,
the contractor gets superior efficiency,
responsive comfort, and reduced life cycle
costs all in one package.
BOSCH OFFERS CONDENSING
TANKLESS WATER HEATER MODELS
Bosch now offers two new models of
condensing gas-fired tankless water heaters
for domestic hot water on demand applica-
tions. Greentherm C 1050 ES and C 950
ES are both ENERGY STAR
®
rated models
featuring condensing technology for up to
10 percent improved energy efficiency over
non-condensing models, with an energy
factor up to 0.94. They are now equipped
with an automated and fully modulating
bypass for unsurpassed temperature sta-
bility.
Bosch Greentherm condensing tankless
water heaters offer maximum efficiency all
the time – at high and low mass flow rates.
The wall-mounted units offer multiple
venting options including fast and simple
concentric PP up and out, and up to four
unit cascades vented together through a
sidewall or roof with the new Polypropylene
Common Venting System from Bosch.
For commercial applications, Bosch
offers its high performance Therm C 1210
ESC tankless water heater providing up to
98 percent thermal efficiency. The gas-fired,
condensing Bosch Therm C 1210 features a
space saving design, affording easy servicing
access, and can be cascaded using up to
24 units to satisfy requirements up to 240
gallons per minute for jobs such as tank
loading, solar thermal recirculation, radiant
floor and space heating applications. Its con-
densing heat exchanger captures heat from
exhaust flue gases and uses the latent heat
to preheat incoming cold water, increasing
each unit’s efficiency up to 10 percent over
non-condensing models. Venting options
include direct, vertical or horizontal, and
PP common venting of up to four units.
Available in both NG and LP models.

TJERNLUND ANNOUNCES
CHIMNEY STACK ASSIST KIT
Tjernlund Products Inc. recently
announced its new Chimney Stack
Assist Kit, which can eliminate
the need for a chimney liner when
venting water heaters in oversized
chimneys. As a result of upgrades to direct
vent condensing furnaces, water heaters are
often orphaned and left to vent in chimneys
that are oversized after the vent connector
from the old furnace is capped. This can
lead to condensation and flue gas spillage
problems. The CSA1 allows a water heater
to be vented through an existing vent con-
nector into an oversized chimney without
adding a chimney liner.
The kit offers the following benefits:
• Mechanical assist fan protects against
condensation callbacks and flue gas
spillage problems.
• Installing the CSA1 Kit is a one-person
job and doesn’t require an electrician.
• By eliminating the liner, the contractor
doesn’t need two techs on the job and
keeps techs away from potential roof
fall liabilities.
• The CSA1 Kit includes a draft hood
Linear Limit Safety to lock out the
water heater in case of sustained flue
gas spillage.
LAARS INTRODUCES NEW POOL HEATER
The Mighty Therm2 Pool Heater
from Laars, designed specifically for the
replacement pool heater market, is avail-
able in seven sizes from 500 to 2000 MBH.
The natural gas or LP-fired systems come
standard with a built-in automatic mixing
system to make sure low return water
temperatures won’t condense. The mixing
system includes a three-way thermostatic
mixing valve and a factory mounted and
wired pump, allowing the Mighty Therm2
to handle return water temperatures as low
as 60°F without causing internal conden-
sation.
TheMightyTherm2PoolHeater’s features
also include 87 percent thermal efficiency;
ultra-low NOx (10 ppm) emissions; a wiring
terminal strip for easy electrical trouble-
shooting; gas and water supply on right or
left side; flexible Cat I or III venting; and
suitability for indoor or outdoor installation.
