Letter to Congress members from New England and New York

March 19th, 2020 - 2:43 pm

Today, NEFI sent the following letter to Congress members from New England and New York.

Dear [Name]:

Important coronavirus update regarding heating fuel delivery and related service.

As during previous national emergencies, our members are doing all they can to ensure no customer goes without home heating fuel or required heating or cooling system maintenance. They will continue to do so for the duration of the crisis.

NEFI has provided COVID-19 related guidance to heating fuel dealers and home comfort providers. This includes best practices on how to keep employees and customers safe and healthy. It is available at https://nefi.com/coronavirus.

We are also working closely with the FMCSA and others in the administration to ensure that no federal action restricts our members' ability to deliver fuel or provide related services. The agency has issued an hours-of-service waiver and it has been revised at the request of NEFI and other groups to include fuel deliveries related to the pandemic. Our state and local association partners are in frequent communication with their officials as well, including governors' offices.

Our members are mostly small, family-run businesses. Like small businesses in other sectors, they face significant financial hardship as a result of the crisis. They are watching developments in Washington closely and eager for forthcoming relief.

Thank you for all you do. Please let us know if there is any other information we can provide.
