Over the past five years, there have been
increasing reports of corrosion in under-
ground tank systems storing newer fuels.
Tank owners and operators are understand-
ably concerned about these reports. This is
especially true as the federal government
mandates sales of higher-percentage ethanol
blends and ULSD.
The corrosion being seen isn’t the old
galvanic corrosion of steel tank exteriors.
That problem was solved long ago by
external corrosion prevention systems for
underground storage tanks. These days,
much of the corrosion seen is on tank
equipment, such as ball float valves and
submersible turbine pumps (STPs). Readers

The National Biodiesel Board (NBB)
is encouraging heating oil dealers to take
advantage of NBB’s support services for
Bioheat
®
sales. Paul Nazzaro, petroleum
liaison to the board, said NBB urges dealers
to register as licensed Bioheat marketers
and take advantage of NBB’s informational
resources.
Marketers can register to use the
Bioheat
®
logo in their marketing and take
advantage of NBB’s marketing resources.
NBB maintains the biodiesel-e2e.com
informational portal that provides video
presentations about biodiesel, as well as
equipment guidelines and information on
blending and dispensing biodiesel. NBB also
offers marketers the Ask Ben newsletter,
which provides technical information, leg-
islative updates and more. The newsletter
publishes every quarter.
These digital information tools are
designed to communicate everything
petroleum professionals need to successfully
integrate biodiesel and make it a profitable
part of their business. They are also designed
to help biodiesel producers work more effec-
tively within the petroleum supply chain.
