In letter to Congress this week, NEFI listed priorities for heating fuel dealers and other home comfort providers as lawmakers begin work on a major new coronavirus relief bill. "With the next heating season now only a few months away, NEFI members and their consumers hope Congress will take the necessary actions to help them prepare for whatever mother nature - and importantly, the coronavirus - may bring," the letter said....

NEFI joined a coalition letter this week urging Congress to increase funding for the Federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in advance of the upcoming heating season. The letter requests $5.1 billion for fiscal year 2021, which is 36% above the regular appropriation for the current fiscal year. The letter comes as the coronavirus pandemic and related economic concerns have put additional strain on state budgets, local fuel assistance programs, gas and electric utilities, and heating oil and propane distributors....

A notice published today in the Federal Register states that the U.S. Department of Agriculture is making available up to $100 million in grants under the Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program (HBIIP). Of that $100 million, $14 million is reserved for projects that support higher biodiesel blending (greater than 5%). The HBIIP offers eligible applicants cost-share grants of up to 50% of a blending infrastructure project's cost, not to exceed $5 million.
