Act now to help save our industry

The liquid heating fuel industry currently faces record prices and grave uncertainty. NEFI has been on the front lines throughout this global energy crisis, explaining the issues to regulators and the oval office. These efforts have yielded some success, but the crisis continues, demanding further action and direct engagement with Congress.

Yesterday morning, NEFI sent a letter to Congress calling for lawmakers to "help struggling families and small businesses, address global climate change, and enhance American energy security during the crisis." The letter was signed by a broad coalition of industry stakeholders, including the Energy Marketers of America, Clean Fuels Alliance America (formerly the National Biodiesel Board), the Oilheat Manufacturers Association, OESP, and every state heating oil association in the Northeast.

Our urgent recommendations include:

  • Offer heating fuel dealers 100% guaranteed SBA loans for all receivables aged 60-200 days for a six-month period
  • Increase the federal tax credit for high-efficiency boilers or furnaces to 30% of the installation cost with no caps or limits
  • Enact long-term extensions for all renewable fuel tax incentives
  • Encourage greater U.S. energy production
  • Boost fuel assistance funding to $5.1 billion for 2023
  • Increase funding for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission

"These recommendations complement existing legislation, including a new energy bill being written by Senator Joe Manchin, and we are hopeful they will attract bipartisan support" said NEFI Vice President Jim Collura. "We understand it is not an exhaustive list and we welcome any other recommendations members may have."
