The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s drug and alcohol testing rates for CDL drivers and other persons performing safety sensitive functions remains unchanged for 2026.
The agency requires testing, over the course of the year, 50% of the persons in the random testing pool for illegal drug use and 10% of the persons in the pool for illegal alcohol use. These rates have not changed since 2020.
FMCSA has authority to revise the random testing rates upwards or downwards each year based on the percentage of positive tests from the prior year.
