New England Council

On Friday, October 31, the New England Council submitted a letter to the Federal Register related to the operation of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on trade. NEFI is a member of the Council and applauds its efforts to enhance trade in the region.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) is required to reach out and solicit comments on the operation of the USMCA and potential changes ahead of the six-year anniversary of the agreement. The joint review of the USMCA will take place on July 1, 2026. Generally, the three parties will discuss the operation of the USMCA, evaluate any recommendations for action submitted by any of the three nations, and decide on any appropriate actions as well as determine if the agreement should be continued and not terminated after 16 years.

Because of the Council’s long-held support for the USMCA, the Council submitted the letter encouraging the Trump Administration to continue utilizing this important trade agreement.

NEFI will continue to monitor the trade situation with our northern neighbors, and provide relevant updates as they arise. For more information, contact Jim Collura, NEFI President.
