FMCSA Online Registration Update Service Is Operating Again

Admin  -   09:00 am  -   January 28th, 2025

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced its Licensing and Insurance services for motor carriers are once again available for online updates. The agency said its FMCSA Registration Options have been moved into the FMCSA Portal to ensure compliance with the Presidential mandate for Multi-Factor Authentication. No changes have been made to accessing the Unified Registration System to apply for new registration.

Both company officials and Associates of a company can access the new Registration menu through their FMCSA Portal accounts to make registration changes.

The new menu allows users to complete the following updates online:

  • Applying for additional operating authority
  • File a biennial update (MCS-150)

  • Change of address

  • Reinstate operating authority

  • Reapplication for USDOT Number after revocation

  • Update cargo tank registration

  • Update HM Safety Permit

Other transactions, like legal name change requests, that required paper forms before will also continue to be submitted on paper.

According to FMCSA, if you already have a Login.gov account, you do not need to create a new one. Use your existing Login.gov account only if it is not already associated with an FMCSA Portal account. Each FMCSA Portal account type – whether for a Company Employee, Associate of a Company, Insurance Filer, or BOC-3 Filer – requires its own unique Login.gov account. You cannot use the same Login.gov account for multiple FMCSA Portal accounts.

Additional information can be found at FMCSA L&I Registration Options Page Advisory and a complete step-by-step process is detailed in our FMCSA Portal Registration User Guide for FMCSA Registered Entities and Associates.
