The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance announced the results of its 2025 Brake Safety Week conducted nationwide August 24-20.
Inspectors in 52 jurisdictions throughout North America conducted 15,175 commercial motor vehicle inspections with a focus on brake systems and components. Inspectors placed 2,296 vehicles out of service due to brake-related violations. That is a 15.1% OOS rate out of the total number of vehicles inspected.
The most-cited reason a vehicle was placed out of service was because 20% or more of the vehicle’s (or combination’s) service brakes had an out-of-service condition. Inspectors identified 1,199 such violations, which was 52.2% of the vehicles placed out-of-service.
