Last week the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration conducted an overnight highway safety enforcement effort along with the Department of Homeland Security and state enforcement agencies in South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia. In addition to addressing criminal activity along major freight corridors, the effort involved conducting inspections, verifying driver credentials, checking for fatigue, evaluating electronic logging devices, looking for distracted driving or unsecure cargo, and assessing English Language Proficiency.

The operation resulted in:

  • 552 inspections;

  • 78 drivers placed out of service (including 12 for ELP violations), including drivers with non-domiciled commercial driver licenses; and

  • 25 vehicles placed out of service.

According to DOT, since the Trump Administration made this effort a priority in April 2025, the Department has placed 31,200 drivers out of service who could not speak basic English or read road signs; shut down nearly 10,000 driving schools; and revoked more than 31,000 licenses illegally issued to foreign drivers.
