Advocacy efforts for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) remain a top priority for NEFI. While much of the recent legislative focus has centered on H.R. 1, President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” it’s important to note that LIHEAP was not addressed in that legislation and remains unaffected by its provisions.
Funding for LIHEAP in Fiscal Year 2026 will be determined through the regular appropriations process, which involves the passage of twelve annual funding bills. And while the Trump administration has proposed eliminating the program, LIHEAP continues to enjoy strong bipartisan support, particularly among members of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees who recognize its vital role in supporting vulnerable households during the heating season.
NEFI will continue to advocate for full funding of LIHEAP and urges members to engage with their congressional delegations to underscore the program’s importance. We also encourage you to participate in our grassroots campaign to contact your elected representatives. You can access the campaign and send a message directly to your lawmakers here.
