As a result of the recent fatal truck crash in Florida, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has posted on X, "Effective immediately we are pausing all issuance of worker visas for commercial truck drivers." The post added, "The increasing number of foreign drivers operating large tractor-trailer trucks on U.S. roads is endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers."

A report in Newsweek quoted a State Department spokesperson  that the pause is for applicants who wish to operate commercial trucks with H-2B, E-2 and EB-3 visa classifications. "This pause will remain in place while the Department of State, in coordination with the Departments of Labor and Homeland Security, makes any necessary updates to its screening and vetting protocols," the spokesperson added.
