In a position that might be at odds with the President’s approach. U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright has stated that a ban on export of diesel fuel as a means to buttress domestic supplies and reduce prices will not be effective. The issue has arisen as diesel prices have exceeded $6.50 per gallon or more in some markets.
Secretary Wright said, "If you can't export the diesel that comes out of our refineries, you run out of places to store it, and you have to reduce U.S. refining, which would put upward pressure on gasoline prices and jet fuel prices."
The Administration is working on other methods to improve the supply and reduce the price of diesel, including a driver hours of service waiver that allows drivers of trucks hauling gasoline or diesel to operate up to 16 hours per day.
