Congress successfully averted a government shutdown by approving a $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill (H.R.244) that funds federal agencies and programs through the remainder of the current fiscal year, ending September 30, 2017. NEFI members should be aware the bill does not eliminate $372 million in remaining Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funds as requested by the President. Trump's proposal to eliminate the federal LIHEAP program has been met with strong opposition in Congress.
