Liquid Heating Fuel's Frontline Advocates Push Industry Priorities

Today, NEFI and a coalition of industry allies sent a letter to Congressional leaders, laying out in clear terms the argument for liquid heating fuels and equipment to be included in the forthcoming reconciliation package. As reported in this week's issue of NEON, liberal and moderate Democrats are in deep negotiations on a reconciliation bill "framework," which has provided a critical opportunity for our industry to make its priorities heard before a deal is reached.

NEFI recognized this opportunity several months ago and had been working to form a coalition of industry allies that could amplify our message across the halls of Congress, helping to ensure that our collective voice is heard by key decision-makers. The attached letter -- signed by NEFI along with the Advanced Biofuels Association (ABFA), National Association of Oil & Energy Service Professionals (OESP), National Biodiesel Board (NBB), and Oilheat Manufacturers Association (OMA) -- is a result of those tireless efforts and the support of people like you.

The letter documents the positive steps our industry has taken to reduce emissions and offers specific policy recommendations that Congress can take to "help Main Street heating fuel businesses compete in the new energy economy and support American farmers and renewable fuel producers." The letter reminds lawmakers that investments in efficiency and sustainable fuels avoid costly home energy conversions. It concludes: "The double-punch of more efficient appliances and greater adoption of renewable liquid heating fuels will deliver immediate and cost-effective solutions that can help achieve the president's goal of a 50% reduction to economywide greenhouse gas emissions by 2030."

This letter and the coalition-building effort behind it truly would not have been possible without the support of Main Street heating fuel businesses like yours. If you have not already done so, please consider sending a similar letter via our online advocacy platform and contributing to the NEFI Advocacy Bridge Fund.
